The vertical spacing is generations, not years. Matthew's twenty eight names and Luke's forty three cover the same stretch of time, so Matthew's are spread to keep the two lanes abreast, pinned where the lists actually agree. Herod's Edomite descent is Josephus, not scripture; the Agag-to-Haman link is a strong reading of Esther, not a statement in it.
